Afie Jurvanen, known by his stage name Bahamas, is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist celebrated for his warm vocals, minimalist arrangements, and introspective songwriting. Born on April 28, 1981, in Toronto and raised in Barrie, Ontario, Jurvanen is a self-taught musician who has collaborated with artists such as Feist, Howie Beck, Jason Collett, Jack Johnson, The Weather Station, and Zeus .

Jurvanen's debut album, Pink Strat (2009), recorded in a rural Ontario cabin, garnered a Juno Award nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Solo. His subsequent releases, including Barchords (2012) and Bahamas Is Afie (2014), further established his reputation, with the latter earning him Juno Awards for Adult Alternative Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year .

Continuing his exploration of soulful and folk-infused sounds, Jurvanen released Earthtones (2018), which won the Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year and received a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical . His fifth album, Sad Hunk (2020), also secured a Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year . In 2023, he ventured into country-inspired territory with his sixth studio album, Bootcut .

Known for his engaging live performances, Jurvanen has toured extensively, both as a headliner and opening act for artists like Jack Johnson, Robert Plant, Wilco, The Lumineers, and City and Colour . His music, characterized by its sincerity and understated charm, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
