July Talk is a Canadian alt-rock band renowned for their explosive live performances, cinematic dynamics, and the magnetic vocal interplay between co-lead singers Leah Fay and Peter Dreimanis. With a sound that fuses gritty blues-rock with art-pop sensibility and post-punk edge, July Talk has become one of Canada’s most distinctive and emotionally charged musical exports.

Formed in Toronto in 2012, the band originally emerged as a duo between Dreimanis — whose raspy, Tom Waits-style growl contrasts sharply with Fay’s ethereal, elastic vocals — before evolving into a five-piece with the addition of Ian Docherty (guitar), Josh Warburton (bass), and Danny Miles (drums). The push-and-pull between Dreimanis and Fay became the band’s signature — a visceral, theatrical dynamic that plays out like a conversation, conflict, and love story all at once.

Their self-titled debut album July Talk (2012) made an immediate impact with hits like “Guns + Ammunition” and “Paper Girl,” earning the band a growing fanbase across Canada and international attention. The album went gold in Canada and won them the JUNO Award for Alternative Album of the Year in 2015.

Follow-up albums Touch (2016) and Pray for It (2020) showcased the band’s evolution — expanding their sonic palette while diving deeper into themes of intimacy, power, gender politics, identity, and vulnerability. Their lyrics walk the line between the personal and the political, while their sound walks the tightrope between chaos and control, light and darkness.

July Talk is widely acclaimed for their live performances, which feel more like immersive, confrontational art pieces than traditional rock shows. Leah Fay, in particular, brings an otherworldly theatricality to the stage, breaking the fourth wall and blurring the lines between performer and audience, while Dreimanis anchors the chaos with brooding intensity. Together, they create a unique tension — tender, volatile, and completely captivating.

The band has earned multiple JUNO Awards, toured extensively across North America and Europe, and opened for acts like Metric, Arkells, and Catfish and the Bottlemen. In 2023, they released their fourth studio album, Remember Never Before, which further pushes their creative boundaries with bold production, poetic lyrics, and themes of transformation and resistance.

July Talk isn’t just a band — they’re a force of nature. With raw emotion, provocative artistry, and fearless musical evolution, they challenge their audiences to feel deeply, think critically, and move their bodies and minds in equal measure. At their core, they are a band about connection — often messy, always electric.
