Dear Rouge is an award-winning Canadian electro-rock duo known for their infectious synth-driven sound, bold vocals, and emotionally resonant songwriting. With a style that merges the raw energy of alt-rock with the glossy textures of synth-pop, the band has become one of Canada’s most compelling modern acts — a staple on radio, festival stages, and streaming playlists alike.
Formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Dear Rouge is the creative partnership of husband-and-wife duo Danielle and Drew McTaggart. The band’s name playfully nods to Danielle’s hometown of Red Deer, Alberta (“dear” + “rouge”), reflecting the personal roots behind their music.
Their breakout moment came in 2012 when they won the Peak Performance Project, a prestigious artist development competition that helped launch their career on a national level. That momentum led to the release of their 2015 debut album, Black to Gold, featuring chart-topping hits like “I Heard I Had” and “Best Look Lately.” With soaring choruses and pulsing synths, the album established Dear Rouge as a force in Canada’s indie-rock renaissance.
In 2016, the band won the JUNO Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year, a testament to their growing fanbase and genre-crossing appeal. Their follow-up album, PHASES (2018), dove deeper into themes of change, struggle, and reinvention, with singles like “Live Through the Night” and “Modern Shakedown” showcasing both vulnerability and power.
Known for their electrifying live shows, Dear Rouge brings a mix of theatricality, intimacy, and dancefloor-ready energy to every performance. Danielle’s charismatic stage presence — commanding and cathartic — is matched by Drew’s production savvy and dynamic guitar work, creating a sound that feels both urgent and anthemic.
In 2022, the duo released Spirit, their most personal and atmospheric work to date. Inspired by themes of self-discovery, faith, and inner healing, the album marked a sonic evolution — fusing organic instrumentation with their signature electronic sheen and introspective lyricism.
